Senior Electrical Designer

Job Description:

Requirement/Must Have:

• Hands-on experience with Smartplant 3D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge and application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE standards.
• Experience with electronic Cable Management Systems (e.g., SETROUTE).
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts.
• Knowledge of client corporate guides and standards.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines and resolve design issues independently or collaboratively.

Experience:

• Relevant experience designing electrical systems and equipment for nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.
• Modeling of electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, lighting, receptacles, grounding, and lightning protection in a Smartplant 3D environment.
• Performing calculations using AGI 32 (lighting layouts) and ETAP (ground grid layouts).
• Creating bills of materials, installation details, and specifications using software like SpecsIntact.
• Supporting, coaching, and training less experienced designers.
• Coordination with systems engineering to establish and verify design/project requirements.
• Previous experience with DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA projects preferred.
• Experience with ISO-9000 or other quality assurance programs.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, develop, coordinate, and review electrical design work within a medium-size design team.
• Produce drawings and documentation including earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing.
• Ensure electrical system designs comply with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
• Communicate technical issues and recommend solutions to management.
• Facilitate technical discussions with clients, suppliers, and regulators.
• Prepare or oversee design estimates, work plans, and implementation per project scope, schedule, and budget.
• Review and approve key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries.
• Mentor electrical designers and drafters.
• Coordinate with other disciplines for 3D model integration, interference reconciliation, and design verification.
• Implement physical design layouts including raceway design, equipment locations, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection.

Qualification and Education:

• Level 1: AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 10–12 years of experience, or 12–14 years of relevant work experience.
• Level 2: AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 13–15 years of experience, or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
