The LCDC Counselor for the Community Supervision and Corrections Department (CSCD) is responsible for providing counseling and treatment services to individuals on probation. The Counselor will conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and deliver individual and group counseling aimed at addressing substance abuse issues while supporting offenders in their rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society. This role requires strong knowledge of addiction treatment, criminal justice practices, and effective case management strategies.
This role also involves collaborating with other departments, divisions, agencies, and community organizations to optimize the use of available resources for chemical dependency treatment and rehabilitation.
Responsibilities
- Provides substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training, while participating in educational groups in accordance with Substance Abuse Treatment Program standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Conducts interviews, screenings, and evaluations to assess offenders' eligibility for program participation.
- Maintains comprehensive offender records, including service documentation and workload statistics, and compiles data for reports and related submissions.
- Acts as a liaison for participants in training programs, workshops, and seminars.
- Develops and implements follow-up and aftercare plans for offenders prior to their release, and provides information on community resources for ongoing treatment and placement.
- Performs any additional duties as assigned by the Special Program Supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of alcoholism, chemical dependency, addiction, co-dependency, and related disorders.Familiarity with counseling techniques and modalities, along with an understanding of chemical dependency recovery processes.Knowledge of agency and departmental structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations (preferred).Strong communication skills to convey ideas and instructions clearly and effectively.Ability to coordinate with staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.Proficient in interpreting and applying rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.Skilled in problem-solving and decision-making techniques.Proficient in using computers and related equipment, both in stand-alone and networked environments.Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.Skilled in reviewing technical data and preparing detailed reports.Experienced in conducting interviews and administering screening tools.Bilingual skills (Spanish / English) preferred, with the ability to interpret and translate between both languages.To succeed in this role, an individual must be able to satisfactorily complete each essential duty. Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent GED, and current licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).At least one year of full-time, wage-earning experience in substance abuse treatment or substance abuse education.Applicants possess a valid Texas Driver's License, have reliable transportation, and provide proof of liability insurance.Must not be employed as a peace officer.Must not be currently on community supervision, parole, or serving a sentence for a criminal offense.Physical Demands / Work Environment
