American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Emergency Department assignment in Illinois, requiring active IL licensure and multiple advanced certifications.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Position based in a Level 1 trauma Emergency Department in an acute care hospital
  • 65-bed ER with two trauma bays, serving all ages from newborns to elderly
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1 : 3 to 1 : 5 depending on acuity
  • Care for patients with a wide variety of complaints, including critical and cardiac cases, stroke, and trauma
  • Travelers may care for trauma patients once stabilized and transferred to a pod, but are not primary nurses in the trauma bay
  • Requires competency in managing and titrating vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips
  • Uses Phillips telemetry monitors and Epic EMR; orientation to devices provided
  • 12-hour shifts scheduled by management, with every other weekend required and potential for block scheduling
  • Floating is rare but may occur, typically as a help-all rather than taking a full assignment on another unit
  • No on-call requirement for travelers
  • Scrubs should be tasteful, with any solid colored shirts permitted underneath
  • Responsibilities include triage, stabilization, and ongoing care of a full spectrum of emergency patients
  • ER team includes attending physicians, charge nurses, ED techs, and a house supervisor available 24 / 7
  • Support available from respiratory therapy for advanced equipment and from monitor techs for rhythm monitoring
  • Travelers scheduled according to department needs; time-off requests considered
  • Holiday coverage is required every other holiday, negotiable based on contract
  • COVID vaccination is not required for this assignment
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a local pay rate

  • Active IL RN license required at the time of consideration
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS required
  • Minimum two years of ER nursing experience required
  • At least one prior travel assignment preferred
  • Proficiency with vasopressor and cardiac drip titration required
  • Experience in teaching hospitals and with SANE cases preferred
  • Ability to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
