To teach, develop and mentor nursing staff on a broad range of knowledge, skills and activities, which lead to the development and performance of competent practices consistent with the individual job descriptions. Coordinate and facilitate continuing education programs that promote and advance nursing competency. Provides feedback and solutions to problems of performance, evaluation of clinical competence and professional development. Facilitates an environment that values and enhances learning knowledge acquisition and professional development.
Job Opening Qualifications
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree.
Required Licensure/Certifications:
-Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida
-BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required for all areas.
-NPD-BC certification within 3 years of hire or transfer
-ACLS from the American Heart Association is required for Surgery Center North (633480).
-PALS from the American Heart Association is required within six (6) months of hire or transfer for Surgery Center North (633480).
-Effective January 1, 2015, all new hires or transfers must have a professional certification within two years of hire or transfer. For certifications that require a specified number of cases or hours worked within the specialty, the certification must be applied for once the case/time requirement has been met, and the certification must be obtained within one year of the requirement having been met (e.g. oncology, chemotherapy, diabetes education).
-Certifications as required for assigned units.
Exception: Diabetes Educators are required to conduct 2000 patient teaching hours before they are eligible for certification. Therefore, Diabetes Educators must have Diabetes certification within 4 years of hire.
Preferred Licensure/Certifications:
N/A
Required Experience:
1-2 years formal or informal teaching/training adult education
Preferred Experience:
NRP, PALS, BLS/ACLS Instructor preferred per clinical area.
Necessary Skills:
1. Organized and self-motivated.
2. Able to work independently.
3. Possesses assertiveness skills and above average verbal and written communication skills.
4. Knowledgeable in principles of adult education.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and families, staff, physicians, other disciplines and administration.
