Job Description Summary

The Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant is under the general direction and responsibility of the supervising / collaborating physician and assumes responsibility and accountability for providing care including E&M services, H&P, discharge management, and EP procedural assistance for assigned electrophysiology patients. Collaborates with members of the cardiology team to establish protocols, supervise treatment plan and monitor quality of clinical practice.

Work Shift : Monday-Friday, 8 : 00am-5 : 00pm, with occasional weekend availability required.

Patient Population Focus : Inpatient, Outpatient

Patient Population Age Range : 13 years to death

Required Minimum Training : Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.

Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date :

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required for adult inpatient positions

DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Qualifications

Preferred Training

For Physician Assistant : PA license; for APRN : License Type / Certification as identified (AGACNP / ACNP or AGPNP / ANP or FNP as appropriate)

Supervision

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising / Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.

Physical Requirements

Continuous requirements include standing, walking, sitting; bending, kneeling, climbing stairs; reach in all directions; good dexterity; ability to use respirators if required; vision 20 / 40 corrected; ability to work in latex-safe environment; potential to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted; ability to work in dusty or confined spaces as needed.

Additional Job Description

Master's degree in Nursing with two years clinical experience required, including at least one year in a specialty area. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or eligibility to certify within six months of employment. Requires RN licensure and official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Current BLS; ACLS required for adult inpatient positions.
