Overview
Environmental Manager at Toyota Boshoku America (TBA) – Jackson, TN. Lead strategic and tactical EHS activities to provide Environmental / Health & Safety services, direction, and counsel to executive staff, management, and plant team members. Manage EHS policy development, compliance with OSHA and related laws, audits / inspections, reporting, workers' compensation management, corrective actions, and EHS training. Build and maintain a productive work environment aligned with company goals and objectives.
Essential Job Functions
- Select, train, develop, and organize subordinate staff to meet department responsibilities and objectives.
- Provide direction and motivation to EHS staff focusing on safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and morale.
- Direct and support EHS staff by assigning projects and areas of responsibility; maintain positive team relations.
- Ensure development of training plans, performance evaluations, feedback, coaching, and cascade training.
- Establish and maintain EHS functions that ensure safe, stable, and efficient safety and environmental activities.
- Act as liaison between location team members, Plant Management, third parties, and external stakeholders; protect interests under EHS policies and regulations.
- Coach and mentor management on EHS matters; assist department managers with EHS responsibilities.
- Lead activities to achieve a high level of safety; resolve policy-related and procedural problems; investigate team member complaints.
- Research and investigate compliance issues (workers' compensation, attendance, harassment, etc.); facilitate performance management and corrective actions.
- Enhance and enforce EHS policies and procedures to improve operations, efficiency, and cost containment.
- Ensure consistent administration of all EHS policies and regulatory compliance; lead policy communication and education.
- Maintain current knowledge of regulations, industry trends, and laws related to EHS.
- Lead and manage ISO 14001 and related environmental activities; identify legal requirements and reporting regulations.
- Serve as plant liaison with governmental agencies, insurers, and external providers for audits, training, and inspections.
- Monitor program competitiveness against peers and markets; manage EHS measurement systems and KPI reporting.
- Track and report safety incidents, ergonomic issues, training, audits, and environmental metrics; prepare reports for senior management.
- Lead internal communications, recognition programs, safety meetings, suggestion programs, and surveys.
- Audit safety postings for regulatory compliance; develop safety awards and recognition programs.
- Provide management support for plant safety and health programs; develop and monitor safety and security policies.
- Lead security and disaster protection activities; manage wellness programs including workers' compensation.
- Ensure PPE compliance and ongoing safety health measures; maintain training records; manage EHS budget and annual plan.
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering or related field or equivalent experience; ISO 14001 Lead Auditor Training; OSHA and / or CSP certification.Experience
Greater than eight (8) years of relevant experience; minimum of four (4) years of leadership or supervisory experience.3-5 years of relevant manufacturing experience; automotive experience preferred.Emergency response experience; valid First Aid and CPR certificates; experience creating and delivering presentations to large groups.Environmental compliance experience; automotive manufacturing exposure preferred; multicultural environment experience preferred.Personal / Technical Skills
Knowledge of federal and state safety and health laws (OSHA, EPA, DOT, IH) and employment statutes (ADA, HIPAA, FMLA, Workers' Compensation).Ergonomic principles understanding; basic engineering knowledge; strong math, analytical, and organizational skills.Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; customer service orientation; ability to work in fast-paced, multicultural environments.Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work with minimal supervision; ability to maintain confidentiality; strong reporting and presentation skills.Ability to travel 0-10% with occasional overtime; ability to work in and support automotive customer requirements.Language Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.Computer / Software
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with HRIS and enterprise systems (Oracle, Halogen, Kronos) preferred.Work Environment / Conditions
