Senior Environmental Project Engineer (P.E.)

Distinct Engineering Solutions, Inc. has a Full-Time opening for an Environmental Engineer(P.E.) at our North Brunswick, NJ office to work on projects located in New York City.

Desired candidate should have minimum 5 years of related environmental experience with strong knowledge of State and Federal regulations, including soil / groundwater / air contaminant identification, qualitative and quantitative measurements, and implementation of remedial technologies on infrastructure projects located in New Jersey and New York. Candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and willingness to work in both the office and field, including training, directing, and overseeing junior staff.

• The successful candidate will possess :
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering or higher education
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in New York
• Minimum 10+ years relevant experience in :
• Air, soil, and water monitoring, sampling, and reporting
• Environmental workplan preparation
• Waste management
• Minimum 2 years experience working directly on transportation (preferably MTA) construction projects in New York City
• Working knowledge of :
• Contaminated soil management
• Spill prevention & stormwater management
• Hazardous and universal waste management
• Asbestos abatement procedures
• Monitoring instrumentation for noise and silica dust control
• Knowledge of NYSDEC regulations related to Stormwater Pollution Prevention, Erosion Control, Spill Prevention, Site Characterization, soil / groundwater remediation, air & noise pollution monitoring / mitigation measures.
• Knowledge of NYSDOL Asbestos regulations, US EPA regulations related to asbestos, Lead Based Paint, PCB, Universal waste; NYCDEP OER regulations and discharge water permit requirements, NJDEP environmental regulations including to waste characterization management
• Knowledge in use of AutoCAD
• Experience in preparing work plans, project specifications, and technical reports
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites
• Demonstrated experience supervising subcontractors and junior staff
• Excellent organization, communication, and report-writing skills
• Ability to work overtime on weekdays and weekends depending on project needs
• Required Certifications & Training :
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety (current)
• NYSDEC Erosion Sediment Control training (preferred)
• MTA NYCT track training (preferred)
• NYSDOL Asbestos certifications (Preferred)
• Additional Consideration :

Candidate may be considered as an Environmental Manager for MTA projects if he / she has demonstrated environmental compliance experience with permitting, design, and construction management on large, complex transportation or infrastructure projects. Experience should include federal permitting, New York State permitting, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and knowledge of Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations and standards.
