Research Technician

Position Summary

The Meyer Lab in the Department of Psychology at the University at Buffalo is seeking a full-time Research Technician to contribute to ongoing research in behavioral genetics and neuropsychopharmacology. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in animal models of motivation and addiction and will include extensive training in rodent surgery behavioral models of neuropsychiatric disorders and neurobiological methods. Key accountabilities and responsibilities Conduct animal surgeries drug administration and tissue collection Conduct behavioral testing using rat models of learning memory and motivation Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and outcomes Manage inventory and order lab supplies Care for and monitor laboratory animals following laboratory protocols Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces The University at Buffalo is a flagship institution in the SUNY system known for strong interdisciplinary research and a commitment to inclusive excellence. Minimum Qualifications

Education towards a degree in psychology neuroscience biology or a related field At least one year of experience in a laboratory setting Familiarity with rodent handling and behavioral experiments Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Availability for evening and weekend work

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree in psychology neuroscience biology or a related field Experience with jugular catheterizations in rats is highly desired Experience with stereotaxic surgery histology or neuropharmacology Experience with behavioral software (e.g. Med Associates) Interest in long-term research involvement (minimum 2 years)
