Job description

Overview

Environmental Control and Life Support System Air Team - Project Engineer to join Aerodyne Industries, a teammate company, for NASA-related deep space exploration programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project documentation and maintain status of drawings and procurements.
  • Generate essential paperwork for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.
  • Work with the ECLSS Air Team to ensure a test strategy provides sufficient information on system performance and capabilities.
  • Inspect hardware upon receipt to verify it matches fabrication drawings / models.
  • Test rig and equipment buildup as needed and perform all system testing.
  • Design and develop piping and instrumentation diagrams (PIDs) for life support systems.
  • Perform pressure system calculations to verify system safety and ensure optimal function.
  • Develop and present design / test readiness reviews, test plans, and test reports.
  • Schedule testing with test facilities and develop a test schedule with the ECLSS Air Team.
  • Collaborate with procurement personnel and vendors to order and secure procurements.
  • Gather data analysis of test results and assist project management with configuration control of project documentation.
  • Develop test procedures with organizations across JSC for flight certification of hardware.
  • Develop presentations and logistics, manufacturing, and procurement plans.
  • Work in a team environment and report to the project manager on progress and issues, providing support as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree in Engineering with experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Experience with the development of project planning documents.
  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware systems.
  • Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in space hardware, including mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings, material selection, and design software / tools.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and verbally present at meetings.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
  • Requisition Preferences

  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
  • Prior experience in a system development project / program.
  • Experience with NASA / JSC Class I flight hardware process and certification.
  • Flight demo experience.
  • Familiarity with feasibility assessments and trade studies.
  • Familiarity with Nitrogen Resupply.
  • Experience with LabVIEW.
  • Self-motivated problem-solver and a team player who is adaptable to a dynamic environment and able to complete assignments.
