UMC Anesthesiology Technician
PART I - General Job / Performance Information
Education and Experience
High School Graduate or equivalent. Prefer graduate of Surgical Technologist program, or training in laboratory, or respiratory services. Familiar with OR procedures desired. Knowledge of basic pharmacology, sterile processing, basic knowledge of ECG and arterial monitoring, mechanical aptitude, and blood gas / electrolyte analyzer. Prefer knowledge of anesthesia equipment.
Environmental / Working Conditions
The area where work is performed is a high-risk area for exposure to the blood borne pathogens. Works in a well lighted heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs in the department as prescribed by the philosophy of the hospital. May be required to work units other than the assigned one.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Close relationship with Department of Anesthesia, Labor and Delivery, MRI, Radiology, GI Laboratory, Sterile Processing Department, Central Stores, and OR Materials Management.
Job Description
Responsible for planning, securing and arranging the necessary equipment and supplies for anesthesia needs in the operating room. Responsibilities include assisting staff and resident anesthesiologists.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
Maintain CPR certification.
Physical Capabilities
Work is of medium demand; walking and standing most of the time on duty. Frequent reaching, handling, and fingering of equipment and supplies. Moderate frequency in moving and lifting heavy equipment. Near visual acuity to read gauges and dials on equipment.
