Med / Surg RN Job Details

Location : Freeport, Illinois 61032

Healthcare Setting : Acute Care, Medical-Surgical Units

Assignment Length : 13 weeks (Start : 11 / 24 / 2025 – End : 2 / 23 / 2026)

Nursing Shift : 12 Hour Nights (7 : 00 PM – 7 : 30 AM)

Hours : 36 hours per week; every other weekend and holiday rotation required

Estimated Weekly Salary : $1860 - $2000

Orientation : 2 shifts (12 hours each) with preceptor support

Charting System : Meditech

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Illinois RN license (required for submission)

BLS certification (American Heart Association)

Minimum 1 year of recent Med / Surg RN experience (2+ years and post-op recovery experience preferred)

Ability to float to ICU or Telemetry for Med / Surg overflow (within scope of practice)

First-time travel nurses welcome

Med / Surg RN Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality patient care to adults with medical and post-operative needs, including general / orthopedic / podiatry, diabetes, CHF, COPD, cellulitis, and wound care

Work across three medical-surgical units (total of 56 beds) with nurse-patient ratios of 1 : 5-6 during night shifts

Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including respiratory therapists and monitor techs

Utilize and manage respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, High Flow, and Vapotherm (with respiratory support)

Supervise and support nurse aides / CNAs as assigned

Document all patient care activities using Meditech EMR

Participate in department-specific orientation and ongoing professional development
