Construction Worker

Prepares site for daily work, performs all housekeeping and duties necessary for daily activities. Responsibilities include operating jackhammers and drills to break up concrete or pavement, positioning, joining, aligning and sealing structural components, such as concrete wall sections and pipes, shoveling cement and other materials into portable cement mixers and mixing, pouring, and spreading concrete, signaling equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials, smoothing and finishing freshly poured cement or concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools, tending to machines that pump concrete, grout, and sand, tending to pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment, or to heat and move materials such as asphalt, lubricating, cleaning and repairing machinery, equipment, and tools, operating, reading, and maintaining air monitoring and other sampling devices in confined and / or hazardous environments, assisting build and positioning forms for pouring concrete, and dismantling forms after use, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts, cleaning and preparing construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, while following all waste handling guidelines, controlling traffic passing near, in, and around work zones, digging ditches or trenches, backfilling excavations, and compacting and leveling earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes, erecting and disassembling scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps and other temporary structures, loading, unloading, and identifying building materials, machinery, and tools, and distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications, acting as a watch when welding or metal cutting is performed by craft workers, reading and interpreting plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities, expediting materials and equipment to work locations and setting up work sites, completing records, maintaining tools and equipment, and performing various janitorial activities, and responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Performs other duties as required.
