Under the general supervision of the Carpentry Supervisor, the position performs a variety of interior and exterior carpentry work consisting of layout, construction, alteration and repair of floors, roofs, walls, stairways, doors (including installation, alteration, and removal of door hardware), windows, (including glazing), ceilings, and other structures. Operates power tools and hand tools, clean and repair hand tools. Makes minor repairs to office furniture, such as desks, cabinets, bookcases, etc. installs and maintains signage, shelving, cabinets and countertops, windows, doors and related hardware, screens, glass panes, and window treatments, painting and patching, lock and key control.

Position will require working in a non-carpentry capacity, when necessary, as well as, but not limited to responding to overtime and emergency call-ins as required or directed to ensure proper campus operations.

Required Qualifications :

  • Three to five years of experience as a journeyman-level carpenter.
  • Ability to receive, send, compose, and send precise and understandable electronic work orders.
  • Must be able to lift up to a minimum of 50 lbs. and transport piping and equipment in excess of 200 lbs. with others.
  • Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods of time; work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods; routinely walk to and from various buildings carrying tools, equipment, and other essentials to the job site.
  • Ability to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, staging, lifts, etc.
  • Available to work overtime.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license.
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Current license / certification consistent with vehicles, machinery and equipment that is routinely used in the general occupational area.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and diagnose problems from work requests, blueprints, diagrams, verbal, and written instructions.
