Job description

Title : Registered Nurse (System-wide) Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS : 1. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. (Minimum AD or BS required)

2. Must possess RN license and certified in Tennessee

3. Desire to work with students is necessary

4. Ability to work with principals and other professional staff.

REPORTS TO : Supervisor of School Health Services, Medical Director, and Director of Schools

JOB GOAL : To strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of students. The major focus is the prevention of illness and disability, and the early detection and correction of health problems.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Works under the medical guidance of the Greene County Medical Director.

2. Promotes and assists in the control of communicable disease through preventive immunization programs, early detection, surveillance and reporting of contagious disease.

3. Implements policy on exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infections and contagious disease.

4. Screens and evaluates findings of deficit in vision, growth, blood pressure and other appropriate screenings.

5. Initiates referrals to parents, school personnel, and community health resources for intervention, remediation, and follow through.

6. Anticipates supply and equipment needs appropriate for maintaining a continuous, functional school health program.

7. Develops a program that assures safe on-going emergency health care in the absence of the nurse.

8. Participates as a health specialist on the child education evaluation team to develop the Individual Education Program (IEP / 504)

9. Plans and implements school health management protocols for the child with chronic health problems.

10. Participates in home visits to assess the family's needs as related to the child's health.

11. Provides on-going health counseling with students, parents, school personnel, and health agencies.

12. Participates in in-service training programs.

13. Assists in maintaining up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.

14. Provides or coordinates education regarding safe and healthy environments.

15. Provides in-service and medical training to appropriate school personnel to ensure their safe performance of first aid and medically related procedures.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Eleven month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
