The BOP / Mechanical Construction Oversight Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership and technical oversight of all mechanical and Balance of Plant (BOP) construction activities within a power plant setting. This role ensures proper execution of rotating and fixed equipment installation, piping, and auxiliary systems while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, budget, and schedule performance . The Coordinator acts as the owner’s representative, ensuring contractors and subcontractors deliver work in alignment with project requirements, regulatory codes, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Oversight & Coordination
Provide oversight of mechanical construction and BOP systems , including rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines, motors) and fixed equipment (boilers, tanks, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, structural steel, etc.) .
Monitor construction progress, ensuring alignment with project schedules, design specifications, and commissioning milestones.
Coordinate between engineering, OEM vendors, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve constructability or scope issues.
Review contractor work packages, ITPs, and installation procedures for technical compliance.
Resource & Cost Oversight
Monitor contractor manpower, equipment, and material allocations across all BOP and mechanical scopes.
Track project budgets, progress quantities, and earned-value metrics to ensure cost alignment.
Support change order reviews, claims prevention, and financial reporting.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to OSHA, ASME, API, NFPA, and site-specific safety policies.
Conduct field safety walks, identify hazards, and enforce corrective actions.
Verify contractor compliance with mechanical codes and quality standards.
Quality Assurance & Technical Oversight
Oversee inspections, alignments, and performance testing for rotating and fixed equipment.
Validate installation activities against design drawings, vendor documentation, and technical specifications.
Approve mechanical completion and support turnover packages for commissioning.
Reporting & Stakeholder Interface
Act as the liaison between project management, contractors, and client representatives.
Provide regular progress updates and risk assessments to leadership teams.
Maintain clear documentation of issues, deviations, and resolutions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field , or equivalent relevant experience.
10+ years of mechanical / BOP construction oversight in the power generation, heavy industrial, or energy sectors.
Deep technical understanding of rotating and fixed equipment installation, piping systems, and auxiliary plant systems.
Familiarity with industry standards (ASME, API, ASTM, ANSI, OSHA, NFPA).
Strong communication and leadership skills to coordinate large multi-disciplinary teams.
Proficiency with project management tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.).
