Storm Response Equipment Operator
Under supervision, an employee in this class operates motor vehicles and diesel or gasoline-powered equipment used in maintaining County roads and facilities in response to major storm events. The primary work responsibility is for the efficient operation of the assigned vehicle and for the safe transportation of materials and equipment from place to place. The incumbent is responsible for the routine maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) and, when not driving, performs manual labor. Work receives periodic checks while in progress and upon completion for adherence to established policy and procedures. Does related work as required. Rate : $26.00 per hour
The Suffolk County Department of Public Works is seeking candidates for the position of Storm Response Equipment Operator. This position operates motor vehicles and diesel or gasoline-powered equipment used in maintaining County roads and facilities in response to major storm events. The primary work responsibility is for the efficient operation of a motor vehicle and / or heavy equipment to plow, clear roadways, salt roads and move equipment during weather events. Selected candidates will be placed on a list and called out as needed for storm operations.
Minimum Qualifications
All CDL employees are required to submit to a Federal DOT pre-employment drug screening and will be subject to all DOT regulations, including random drug testing during the snow removal season and post-accident testing.
