General Manager, The Otter Restaurant

Who We Are.

Located inside The Manner Hotel in the heart of SoHo, The Otter is a charming neighborhood restaurant led by acclaimed Chef Alex Stupak. Our menu highlights simply prepared seafood, crafted from the freshest seasonal ingredients sourced from trusted purveyors. We serve dinner and cocktail hour daily, with weekend brunch, offering both indoor and outdoor seating—including a dog-friendly patio.

Purpose of the Role

We’re seeking a detail-oriented and hospitality-driven General Manager (GM) to lead all aspects of operations at The Otter. The ideal candidate combines big-picture leadership with a sharp eye for the small things that define a great dining experience. From service execution to staff training, financial oversight to guest relations, the GM is responsible for ensuring excellence at every level.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the restaurant, ensuring smooth service across dinner, cocktail hour, and brunch.
  • Lead and develop FOH management and service staff with a focus on consistency, professionalism, and high standards.
  • Collaborate closely with Executive Chef and BOH leadership to maintain a seamless guest experience.
  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail in service execution, cleanliness, staff appearance, menu presentation, and guest interactions.
  • Monitor all operational elements—from table settings to reservation flow—to maintain brand integrity and guest satisfaction.
  • Analyze P&L reports and financial data to manage labor, food cost, and overall profitability.
  • Uphold strict compliance with health, safety, and labor regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for hotel management and act as a brand ambassador for The Otter within the SoHo community.
  • Manage and oversee reservation platforms, guest communications, and special requests with a proactive, detail-oriented approach.
  • Work closely with other hotel departments on new activations and cross-hole communications
  • Provide training sessions and educational development for the to ensure highest of standards are met
  • Assist with overseeing the IRD department and scheduling

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager in a high-volume, chef-driven or boutique restaurant.
  • A deep appreciation for hospitality and a natural ability to lead with both warmth and precision.
  • Proven track record of managing high-performing teams with a strong emphasis on training, accountability, and morale.
  • Keen attention to detail in every aspect of service—from mise en place to music volume to timing of courses.
  • Strong financial management skills including P&L oversight, inventory control, and forecasting.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Familiarity with hotel restaurant operations is a plus.
  • Fulfill other duties assigned by management.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing 20 lbs. without assistance
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
  • Remain in stationary position for extended periods of time
