Standard Medsurg unit nursing skills

Description :

The unit has 20 private beds.

There are 18 RN FTEs and approximately 60 total staff, including therapy and nursing.

Staff consists of 1 CNC, 2-3 RNs, and 1-2 CNAs for both day and night shifts.

Day Shift typically includes 1 charge nurse, 3 RNs, 2 CNAs, and 1-3 sitters.

Night Shift has a similar staffing structure.

Patient ratios are generally 5 : 1, occasionally reaching 6 : 1 if short-staffed.

Standard nursing equipment is available, in addition to rehab equipment for patient transfers.

The electronic medical record system used is Meditech.

Candidates must have skills in medication administration and patient education on medication reconciliation.

Typical procedures include mobilization of patients to bathrooms, dressing, and out-of-bed mobility.

Nursing care is provided for patients being discharged home.

The best personality fit for this role is someone who is open to learning about rehabilitation, outgoing, energetic, and fun.

Weekend rotation is required, every other weekend.
