Job Overview
Incumbent may Operate a variety of heavy equipment specifically, Long-reach excavator (CAT), Front End Loader (CAT), traditional dump trucks, sweepers, and backhoe. May repair and maintain equipment in addition to other duties.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions :
\n
- Ability to operate equipment to move heavy objects specifically large (3-7 ton) rip rap boulders, pull sand from the sea wall, remove debris from the beach, relocated rip rap, install geotech barriers, and related tasks.
\n
Operate equipment to cut and remove asphalt, concrete, rebar, etc.\n
Have experience with landscaping, dragging, and grading.\n
Have experience loading and unloading gravel, sand, dirt, and rip-rap.\n
Operate equipment to dig trenches, ditches, culverts, and load sand, rocks, etc.\n
Experience in loading, transporting, and installing rip-rap at a remote location with limited access.\n
Ability to operate equipment and complete material installations without damaging or breaking equipment.\n \n
Accountable For : \n
Thorough knowledge of the operation, maintenance, capabilities, and limitations of heavy equipment used in the area of assignment.\n
Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of heavy equipment.\n
Thorough knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.\n
Skill and care in the operation of several types of construction equipment.\n
Ability to dig to grade with related equipment.\n
Ability to perform difficult and complex equipment operational duties in the area of assigne.\n
Ability to train and manage lower-skilled employees and to provide leadership to a small crew in assigning tasks and ensuring work quality.\n
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to make simple records of work activity.\n
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the island staff.\n
Able to read, understand, follow, and implement design documents.\n
Job Requirements
Mandatory : \n
Considerable experience in the operation of heavy equipment related to the construction of seawalls at remote locations or remote work sites.\n
Ability to improvise and develop creative solutions at remote locations to allow for safe continued construction.\n
Mid-Level equipment operator shall have a minimum of 10 years of experience and at least 4 years of experience constructing seawalls or similar (bulkheads, revetments, riprap, etc.).\n \n
Preferred :
Graduation from high school with documented training or education in construction, construction management, and / or equipment operation.\n
Physical Requirements :
\n
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.\n
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; and / or 50 pounds of force frequently; and / or 20 pounds constantly.\n
Must possess the visual acuity to operate heavy equipment and distinguish details and differences in grading and riprap placement in water as well as for safety issues and to read instruction and prepare simple records.\n \n
