Referral Coordinator

Overview

Reporting to the Practice Manager, primarily responsible for scheduling appointments, obtaining benefit verification and insurance authorizations for outpatient appointments. The position ensures that all required referrals and authorizations are secured before the date of service and that patient records are properly updated. This role involves frequent communication with patients, providers, therapists and insurance companies to coordinate care, verify benefits, and ensure compliance with payer requirements.

What you will do

• Coordinates and obtain timely insurance referrals and authorizations to support quality patient care.
• Keeps up to date on referral criteria by reviewing updates from insurance carriers and attending training. Recommends to practice manager any process improvements needed to improve quality of service. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• Processes provider and patient requests for tests and referrals promptly. Responds to patient calls and inquiries in a timely manner
• Works collaboratively with scheduling and patient access teams to ensure accurate and timely processing of authorizations.
• Stay current on referral and authorization requirements by reviewing payer updates and attending training sessions.
• Respond to patient calls and inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
• Answers phones, processes faxes and provides front desk coverage to include checking in, checking out and copay collection
