Job Overview
The Software Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software that powers Brook’s patient and provider platforms. This role works closely with Product, Data, and Care Delivery teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure technology solutions that support Brook’s mission of improving health outcomes through innovation.
The Software Engineer participates in the full software development lifecycle—from architecture and design to implementation, testing, and deployment—and contributes to building a reliable, performant, and user-focused platform.
This role reports to the Director, Engineering and is based in Bellevue, WA (Hybrid). Some travel may be required. All members of the Engineering team are based in the Pacific Time Zone to support real-time collaboration and agile development.
Requirements : Key Responsibilities
- Software Design & Development : Design, implement, and maintain scalable, high-performance applications and APIs for Brook’s digital health platform.
- Full Lifecycle Ownership : Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle, including architecture, coding, code reviews, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate business and clinical requirements into elegant, reliable solutions.
- Quality & Testing : Write clean, testable, and maintainable code while contributing to automated test coverage and CI / CD pipelines.
- System Performance : Monitor application health and performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to improve reliability and scalability.
- Security & Compliance : Implement security best practices and ensure adherence to HIPAA, SOC 2, and Brook’s internal compliance standards.
- Cloud Infrastructure : Contribute to deployment and infrastructure-as-code initiatives, optimizing application performance and cost within cloud environments (AWS preferred).
- Documentation : Maintain clear, detailed documentation for systems, services, and architecture to support operational excellence.
- Continuous Improvement : Participate in sprint planning and retrospectives, advocating for code quality, developer productivity, and system efficiency.
- Innovation : Stay informed on emerging technologies, frameworks, and best practices to support Brook’s growth and technical advancement.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, or Java.Experience developing RESTful APIs, microservices, or distributed systems.Understanding of frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, or similar frameworks) is a plus.Experience working with cloud environments (preferably AWS) and containerization tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB).Strong knowledge of CI / CD pipelines, version control (Git), and automated testing practices.Strong understanding of software architecture patterns and system design.Effective communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and committed to writing clean, maintainable code.Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven, and team-oriented environment.Preferred Experience
Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience.Experience in healthcare technology or other regulated environments.Background in scalable distributed systems or data-driven applications.Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, and security-first development practices.Prior experience in high-growth startup environments.Exposure to AI / ML integration or real-time data processing frameworks.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.Working at Brook
