Job Summary
The MDS Nurse plays a crucial role by using independent judgment to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the activities of our nursing staff involved in the resident care plan. This position is responsible for evaluating the care provided to each resident, ensuring care plans are up-to-date, and leading the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process. The MDS Nurse also assists with assessments for potential admissions and conducts resident assessments at admission, quarterly, and annually.
This role involves close collaboration with residents, their families or advocates, and interdisciplinary colleagues, including providers, to enhance the quality of life for each resident. When working on the floor, the Registered Nurse (RN) will utilize the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes / planning, implementation, and evaluation) to provide tailored nursing care to patients. The RN is responsible for preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment, ensuring comprehensive coordination of care, resident assessment, education, and various nursing interventions.
As a charge nurse, the RN is tasked with delegating appropriate duties to both licensed and unlicensed staff in accordance with their job descriptions, skills, and resident care needs. The RN also provides guidance and support to ensure safe, reliable delivery of care and addresses any concerns related to care and services.
The RN operates within the established scopes and standards of nursing practice, as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules of their state. Professional nursing practice adheres to the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics as recognized by the American Nurses Association.
