ROLE of the POSITION
Director of Interdisciplinary Health Research Development will serve as a campus resource to assist faculty in developing programs and work approaches that foster dynamic, impactful interdisciplinary research activities within the academic health center, serving as a resource to the academic health initiative for interdisciplinary research program and proposal development.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Research, the Director's duties will :
- Support the nascent interdisciplinary Clusters that involve academic health.
- Stimulate creation of compelling new interdisciplinary research ideas that serve the academic health initiative.
- Be a resource to faculty working in physical and mental / behavioral health-related disciplines to help identify and submit impactful interdisciplinary research proposals.
In supporting academic health, the director will serve the faculties as an administration point-person to help them navigate a complex administrative landscape, and to advocate for their success.
An important aspect of this role will be the director serving as a campus-facing resource in the use of academic analytics (software to evaluate and analyze organizational data received from university systems for reporting and decision making reasons), with a priority of identifying interdisciplinary proposal opportunities and pathways to strengthen team formation on campus and with off-campus partners.
For both emergent and established interdisciplinary groups, this director will work with faculty to develop large-scale interdisciplinary research proposals that are aligned with strategic interests of UNLV.
As part of this, the director will work closely with these faculty teams and both the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and the Office of Research Integrity during the development of impactful interdisciplinary proposals, sponsored projects, and translational activities, so as to ensure compliance and increase likelihood of funding.
As interdisciplinary research activity will provide myriad opportunities for faculty as well as in generating ideas with potential for economic impact, this director will catalyze connections with the various health sciences schools, colleges, and programs or units as well as with the Division of Economic Development.
Finally, the director will also work with UNLV communications leaders to ensure that a strengthened and compelling set of narratives of academic health and activities are projected to the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and / or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 5 or more years of experience in research administration, with experience managing teams.
Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD and the following :
- 7 or more years in research administration
- 3 5 years of supervisory experience
- 5 7 years management experience
