Pediatric unit has 8 beds with pediatric med surg acuity. Certifications required include BLS and NRP; PALS and STABLE preferred. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 1 to 1 : 3 in NICU and 1 : 1 to 1 : 4 in the pediatric unit. Charge nurse responsibilities typically fall to the NICU. There are no nurse aides on the unit. Weekend requirement is every other week. Holidays include 2 major holidays per year. Scrub color is navy. Telemonitoring is by Phillips; reading telemetry is not required. Ventilation equipment includes oscillators, Draeger, CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula. Neonatologist is in-house but not present 24 / 7. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24 / 7. Call may be required during low census periods. Shifts are self-scheduled primarily. Floating is required to the nursery and pediatrics; experience in the Mother Baby unit is preferred but not typical. Floor-specific orientation includes 2-3 shifts in NICU and 2 shifts in pediatrics. Common diagnoses include 23 weeks and above, cooling experiences preferred, and feeders / growers. Candidates must be comfortable with high-frequency oscillators and ventilation equipment. Cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during the 13-week assignment.
