We are excited to announce that CHA has recently launched a new inpatient center for youth with acute behavioral health needs. Located in Somerville, this state-of-the-art facility serves a diverse population of children and adolescents aged 3-17, including those with neuro-developmental disorders. The Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry is designed to provide a comprehensive continuum of patient and family-centered care, catering to the needs of youth facing mental health challenges.

The Adolescent Unit, a secured psychiatric environment, focuses on providing care for adolescents aged 12 to 18. In this acute care setting, our team is dedicated to assessment, stabilization, and aftercare treatment planning. We prioritize teaching self-regulation, de-escalation, and restraint reduction as part of our patient and family-centered approach.

Job Purpose

As a Milieu Counselor, you will play a critical role within our multidisciplinary team. Under the guidance of a registered nurse, you will ensure a safe and structured environment while addressing the individual needs of patients in crisis.

Your responsibilities will include assisting patients with daily living activities, leading or co-leading therapeutic groups, performing safety checks, conducting one-on-one meetings, and accurately recording vital signs. You will also assist patients with personal care, nutritional, and hydration needs, while being attentive to their overall well-being and fulfilling other duties assigned by the charge nurse.

Qualifications / Experience :

• High school diploma required; preference for candidates with a B.A, B.S., or M.A. or equivalent human service experience.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Prior experience in human services, behavioral health, or psychiatric settings is strongly preferred; inpatient psychiatric experience is highly desirable.
• All newly hired candidates must successfully complete a job-specific physical test.
