Overview

Job Title : Adjunct Faculty, Developmental Math

Location : LSC-Kingwood, Atascocita Center

Employment Type : Part-Time (Adjunct, seasonal as needed); Regular scheduling with multiple class times including day, evening, and weekend options.

Purpose and Scope

The teaching faculty are responsible for providing learning activities and support to achieve course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses within the curriculum to facilitate student learning.

Essential Job Functions

  • Teaches Developmental Math courses at a variety of times and locations
  • Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
  • Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
  • Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
  • Meets with and advises students before / after class or by appointment, via electronic communication or other appropriate methods
  • Evaluates students to measure progress and informs students of their progress in a timely manner
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
  • Other reasonable related duties as assigned

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work with diverse groups
  • Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies
  • Commitment to academic excellence and student-centered service
  • Ability to develop instructional approaches such as service learning and learning communities, including effective use of technology
  • Ability to engage students with effective teaching strategies
  • Physical Abilities

  • Typically sedentary; may involve walking, standing, bending, carrying light items
  • Work Schedule and Conditions

  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom or lab environment
  • Hours vary based on class times; instructors must meet scheduled times and be available to students outside of class
  • Equipment : PC workstation, calculator, phone, and standard office equipment
  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours in mathematics or statistics
  • Salary and Benefits

    Salary : $55.44 per contact hour
