Education / Experience :

  • Working with students or adults where English is their second language
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in education, TESOL, applied linguistics, or related field.
  • State teaching certification with ESL or ELL endorsement preferred.
  • Experience working or volunteering in an elementary school setting

Responsibilities

  • Be able to collaborate well with staff
  • Provide direct and indirect English language instruction to English learners using research-based strategies.
  • Foster an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and provide language support to parents as appropriate.
  • Advocate for English learners within the school community and coordinate support services.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
  • Discuss students’ progress with parents, other teachers, counselors, and administrators.
  • Teach and mentor students in small groups, and one-on-one.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
  • Willingness to be person-centered with working with staff and students.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to use relevant technology, Google suites, blended learning platforms, and ability to use technology
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with cultural sensitivity and awareness.
  • Ability to be flexible, resilient, and adaptable to changing priorities, with a willingness to put students first at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Notre Dame School of Milwaukee is a Catholic School founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Milwaukee, WI. The school was founded in 1996 as Notre Dame Middle School, an all girls 5th-8th grade middle school to serve Latinas on the southside of Milwaukee. In 2012, a coed primary school opened. With the addition of the primary school, a new name was branded to encompass the entire K4-8th grade school community - Notre Dame School of Milwaukee. We currently serve over 600 students across two campuses and we have both an all-boys and all-girls middle school, a co-ed primary school, and an Early Childhood Education program.
