Job Summary

The primary purpose of the CAD / CAM Programmer position is to review drawings and create the CAM programs using AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Mastercam. In addition, the CAD / CAM Programmer verifies machining programs match drawing interpretation and symbols, and supports Project Management by monitoring machining outcomes in the shop.

Essential Job Functions

• Review Drawings / Assembly Drawings.
• Review drawings for components and sub-assemblies from Project Management and identify the number of pieces to be drawn.
• Identify weld symbols, surface symbols, and quantities of components in order to create Programs.
• Select the correct post-processor program to code which machine will be used.
• Create CNC machine program in Mastercam.
• Select correct drawing file from drawing library for component to be programmed.
• Select tools, drills, endmill, reamers, and facemills that will shape the component.
• Create the tool path to program machine movement.
• Program machine speeds and feeds.
• Return the machining report to Programming Supervisor to be written for CNC machines.
• Monitor machining outcomes on the floor.
• Re-issuing programs if necessary.
• Reports to Service Center Manager, Manager Shared Services Division.
• Supports Project Managers, Corporate Procurement (Purchasing).
• Occasionally interfaces with Production Supervisors.
