Role Overview
As the Head of Wholesale Claims - Americas, you will play a critical role in leading the team and managing AXA XL’s claims for the Wholesale (Programs, Excess & Surplus) property & casualty books of business. You will be a key subject matter expert for AXA XL and will collaborate with other Claims colleagues, Underwriting and Actuarial to design and implement our strategy on claims activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and drive a key growth initiative within the Americas region by developing scalable claims strategies that promote market expansion and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and establish the Wholesale Claims strategy, aligning it with overarching business objectives to drive competitive advantage and operational excellence.
- Set clear, measurable team goals and performance benchmarks, fostering a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement, accountability, and achievement of strategic targets.
- Act as a liaison with business partners, policy holders, and producers to help develop and grow our Wholesale business.
- Share expertise in all lines of business that Wholesale distributes including auto liability, inland marine, property, general liability, financial lines (including cyber / professional), excess and umbrella coverages.
- Apply expertise to Third Party Administrator(s) to assure appropriate staffing, technical handling, data transmission and all activities relating to oversight.
- Help manage colleagues and processes related to coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, reserving and resolution of Wholesale claims, in accordance with established Claim Department guidelines, service standards, and state regulations.
- Manage claims audits and ensure compliance with governance standards across claims relating to Wholesale.
- Drive analytics and data development through identification and reporting on claims metrics and trends.
- Collaborate with underwriting and actuarial teams to discuss claims trends, claim issues and lessons learned; review of policy / endorsement language.
- Assist Underwriting and Product Distribution colleagues with marketing, business development and cross-sell activities.
- Participate in select industry conferences to help promote the company’s Wholesale capabilities.
- Partner and collaborate with practice leaders and Claims Legal in the managing and resolution of complex claim files.
- Provide superior customer service to policyholders and brokers and ensure the same high customer service standards are upheld by all colleagues.
- Resolve claim disputes / disagreements with policyholders and producers in a mutually satisfactory manner while maintaining positive business relationships.
- Partner with other claim managers to facilitate internal plans and strategies.
- Identify strategic and tactical needs that can be solved through technology, process improvements, or training.
- Collaborate with Vendor Managers to help identify trends and ensure company Procurement Process is followed.
- Maintain close supervision of vendor management and expense control within the unit.
- Focus on each team member’s individual performance, development, and success.
Required Skills and Abilities
Diverse claims background, ideally with multiline experience; proven expertise in handling and / or supervising claims; demonstrated experience negotiating and settling complex claim files.Possesses effective analytical skills and sound judgment. Takes initiative and can self-direct.Ability to travel – there is an estimate of 25% travel.Excellent understanding of Programs as well as Excess & Surplus business.Operational expertise, familiar with requisite data demands and analytics in support of claims, underwriting and actuarial groups.Comprehensive knowledge of multi-state insurance coverage law and claim regulations. High dedication to customer service, including professionalism and diplomacy in broker and insured relations.Management skills : ability to coach, develop, set expectations, evaluate, and hold people accountable for performance. Serves as a role model – setting a high bar for performance, engagement, and commitment. Able to work and lead well under pressure.Excellent communication skills – verbal and written – as well as collaboration, presentation and influencing skills. Able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of sophistication. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and efficiently juggle numerous concurrent responsibilities.Ethics : has an impeccable reputation for ethics, integrity, and the highest standards of professionalism.Education : Undergraduate degree required; possession of applicable state adjuster licenses required. Applicants for this role must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future. The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD $235,000 – $250,000, with actual pay determined based on skills, experience, and location.
