An RN in an acute rehabilitation setting with medical-surgical experience, often called an "acute rehab med surg RN," provides specialized care to patients recovering from illnesses or injuries, with a focus on regaining independence and functional abilities. This role involves a combination of acute care skills and rehabilitation-specific expertise

May be asked to work as a backup Charge Nurse

Coordinates total nursing care for patients

Participates in patient and family teaching

Provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting

Nurse to patient ratio : 1 to 4 / 5

Average daily patient census : 22

For Holiday Coverage, Travelers are REQUIRED to work TWO of the following :

Thanksgiving and Friday / weekend after

Christmas Eve / Christmas Day and Friday / weekend after

New Year Eve / New Year Day and Friday / weekend after

NOTE – Extensions that are requested to END in November or before the holiday starts in December will NOT be considered for an extension at the beginning of 2026

Local Travelers - Those who reside within 50 miles of the facility - are not eligible for this need.

This is a small community without public transport. Traveler candidate must have their own vehicle. This is a firm requirement.

2 years recent Med Surg & Rehab experience - Required

Perm address required

May float between Acute Rehab and Med Surg

CHARGE RN EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Previous Travel (at least 3 months) - Required

BSN preferred

NOTE MT ASCUTNEY 3 STRIKE RULE FOR CALL OFFS (enforced immediately) :

After 3 call offs, a traveler's contract will be eligible for termination due to lack of attendance at Mt Ascutney Hospital and Health Center's discretion

Each call off must be communicated to the unit supervisor at least 1.5 hours in advance

Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center is a 35-bed critical access community hospital located in historical Windsor, Vermont. Having been named winner of the Foster G. ClientGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service, Mt. Ascutney is one of only two CARF accredited facilities in the State of Vermont!

Windsor, VT is centrally located and close to some of the best outdoor recreation in the area. Downtown Windsor is full quaint shops, iconic diners, and a Smokehouse where you can find the “best bacon in New England”! The city facility is only a 3-hour drive to cities like Boston, Montreal, and New York!

The hospital features 25 inpatient, medical-surgical beds and a renowned 10-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit. Additionally, the hospital has a therapeutic pool and physical therapy department as well as acute care, transitional care, and hospice.
