Surgery - General Physician

Join a part-time general surgeon, two per diem general surgeons, a team of locum general surgeons (primarily for on-call coverage), and part-time gastroenterology (GI) coverage to help meet clinical demands for services and re-build the general surgery service at our 25-bed Critical Access Hospital.

Most commonly diagnoses encountered in the office setting (in order) are : - Hernias (inguinal and umbilical)

• GERD and related symptoms
• Rectal bleeding
• Gallbladder disease
• Colon polyps or screening for colon cancer
• Hemorrhoids
• Sebaceous cyst
• Dysphagia

Provides operative (open and laparoscopic) and endoscopic procedures, including : - Anal sphincterotomy

thickness skin graft, temporal artery biopsy

General surgeon assists on most Cesarean sections (a family medicine physician with obstetrics privileges assists on some) and selectively assists for GYN and urology cases. Conducts other invasive procedures for established patients and upon request by Medical Staff colleagues, particularly in the Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient setting. Such procedures include :

Prefer candidates have prior experience (at least 2-5 years) in broad spectrum of general surgery and endoscopy.

Selected new graduates from residency or fellowship training may be eligible. Prior experience in a small hospital or CAH desired.

Must be comfortable with rural nature of practice / hospital, limited general surgery colleagues , solo coverage on call, and AVH s complement of specialists (surgical and medical ) and diagnostic testing capacity.

Special clinical interests / expertise to complement those of current part-time general surgeon and expand scope of services to our region are always welcomed. Candidate must be willing to offer the broad scope of practice of a typical rural, community surgeon .

Team oriented, collaborative, and patient focused. High level of customer service ( patient satisfaction) is expected. Excellent, respectful communication with all members of care team.
