Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a current CA RN license, ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certification.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in an acute care Emergency Room setting with 22 beds and additional hallway beds as needed
  • Patient population includes psych, stroke, sepsis, STEMI, and high-acuity cases with 170-210 patients daily
  • Patient ratios are typically 1 : 4, depending on acuity
  • Travelers may not triage but will work in both main ED and fast-track areas
  • Uses Cerner FirstNet EMR; experience with Cerner or FirstNet is preferred
  • 12-hour night shifts, most often 7p-7a, every other weekend required, variable shift times occasionally assigned
  • Floating required to affiliated ER as needed
  • Charge nurse and clinical tech support available 24 / 7
  • Ventilator management required; phlebotomy and point-of-care testing may be needed when tech support is limited
  • Primary responsibilities include direct ER patient care, medication management, pain assessment, and close follow-up for pain protocols
  • Training provided on I-stat, glucometer, and POC urine pregnancy testing during orientation
  • Weekly schedules may include some variable shift rotation and first to float on weekends
  • Dress code requires navy scrubs
  • Must follow strict protocols for stroke and sepsis patients, including timely swallow screens and fluid boluses
  • Holiday coverage assigned according to permanent staff rotation
  • Clinical techs assist with EKGs, labs, vitals, and patient care, especially on weekends
  • Monitor techs use Phillips monitors and require RNs to review and sign off on strips
  • First time travelers not specified; prior travel experience preferred

  • Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years recent ER experience required (2-3 years preferred)
  • Current certifications required : ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS
  • COVID-19 vaccination required
  • Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
  • Ability to pass competency for conscious sedation if required
  • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required : one from a supervisor within 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor within 3 years including dates of employment
  • No prior full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
