The Manager, Environmental Services coordinates the daily activities for the Environmental Services department and is responsible for the direction of the supervisors to ensure an efficient and timely delivery of service to patients, family members, staff, and visitors.
A day in the life of a Manager, Environmental Services at Hackensack Meridian Health includes :
- Manages compliance regarding all EVS and EOC regulations and standards as required by the JCAHO, EPA, OSHA, Federal, State and local governments.
- Schedules staff to provide coverage of all necessary assignments and adjusts allocation of resources to match ongoing changes in hospital needs (monthly, daily, hourly).
- Identifies future work (short and long term), plans appropriate resources, and completes tasks toward improving overall appearance levels.
- Assists in formulating and implementing goals and objectives for the department.
- Ensures procedure manuals and work schedules are current and meet all facility requirements.
- Maintains compliance with departmental programs such as patient surveys, quality control inspections, cycle cleaning programs, and performance improvement, among others.
- Performs rounds of assigned areas several times a day to check environmental conditions and correct deficiencies; observe cleaning techniques of staff and provide appropriate feedback; report all safety, plant engineering, and other problem and follow-up to ensure all issues are resolved.
- Coordinates receipt, distribution, completion, and follow-up of work orders.
- Assesses and recommends environmental improvements in cooperative agreement with Plant Engineering and other hospital department managers and staff.
- Assists the EVS Director in preparation of budgets for areas of responsibility.
- Drives team member engagement and patient experience initiatives across the department.
- Monitors and justifies any significant monthly variances on supplies, purchased services, or salaries and hours budget.
- Authorizes benefit time for staff.
- Updates and approves payroll.
- Oversees and advises topics of environmental concern including infection control, interior design, pest control, storage, sanitation, materials selection, safety, and other facility issues.
- Oversees and directs waste management issues including RMW, recycling, solid waste, and hazardous materials.
- Ensures department equipment is maintained in proper working and sanitary condition; provides direction on minor repair of department equipment.
- Participates in all aspects of staff training including identifying performance gaps for training topics; developing training modules to address performance issues; facilitating training sessions; and providing appropriate follow-up to ensure that staff members are utilizing skills demonstrated in training.
- Performs all activities relative to employee performance and behavior including interviewing and hiring, providing coaching and counseling, and employing disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Directs and supervises the work activities of all supervisors, ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed and enforced.
- Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies.
- Performs other special projects and duties as assigned by the Director of EVS and / or Vice-President of Hospitality Services.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :
Associate degree in Business, Health Care, Hotel Management, or related field.Minimum of 5 years of experience in Housekeeping or Facilities Management.Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred :

Compensation : Minimum rate of $95,555.20 Annually HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members.
