Job description

About the Role :

The Mental Health Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the mental health and well-being of patients within the Geriatric Psychiatry department. This position is responsible for monitoring patients' behavior, assisting with daily activities, and providing emotional support to individuals facing mental health challenges. The technician will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to implement treatment plans and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment. By fostering positive relationships with patients, the Mental Health Technician contributes to their recovery and overall quality of life. Ultimately, this role is vital in bridging the gap between patients and the healthcare team, ensuring that each individual receives the care and attention they need to thrive.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS certified or must obtain within 30 days of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Prior experience in Geri-psych or as a PCT preferred.
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders and treatment modalities.
  • Responsibilities :

  • Monitor patients' mental and emotional well-being, documenting any changes in behavior or condition.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and recreational activities.
  • Implement treatment plans as directed by healthcare professionals, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients, fostering a positive and supportive environment.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to communicate patient progress and any concerns regarding their care.
  • Skills :

    The required skills for this role include strong observational abilities, which are essential for monitoring patients and identifying any changes in their mental state. Effective communication skills are crucial, as the technician will need to interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals regularly. Empathy and compassion are vital in providing emotional support to patients, helping them feel understood and valued. Organizational skills are necessary for maintaining accurate documentation and managing multiple patient needs simultaneously.
