The Environmental Test Technician assists in the creation and execution of written Standard Manufacturing Procedures and detailed Work Instructions to perform inspection, environmental testing and disposition of a variety of thin film coated optics in support of the Optical Coating Department.
Job Description
The Environmental Test Technician inspects, environmentally tests and dispositions optical thin film coatings on witness coupons in a high-paced production department. This position focuses on the execution, monitoring and detailed inspection of accelerated aging tests performed on thin film coatings to determine pass / fail of product (temperature, humidity, salt fog, adhesion, etc).
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Organize and maintain samples and sample traceability provided from various departments for contract specified environmental testing requirements
- Organize testing by schedules provided via department management and Planning function
- Keep detailed, meticulous records to provide objective evidence of sample traceability and proof of sample testing and results per requirements
- Maintain detailed filing of records for the purpose of retention in accordance with customer contracts or AS9100 standard and requirements
- Set up, perform, and report on testing per MIL-specifications or other program requirements
- Learn to operate, maintain, troubleshoot and keep in calibration a variety of environmental test equipment (humidity / salt fog chambers, temperature test equipment, abrasion testers, etc)
- Effectively utilize typical environmental testing tools and instruments such as pH meters, multimeters, tweezes, abrasion tools, loupes and microscopes
- Gain exposure to and cross-train with Coating Metrology function, performing spectral testing pre and post environmental testing
- Maintain a clean, organized and auditable environment
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
Education & Experience
2+ years minimum experience as an Optical Inspector, Technician or equivalent within an optics company. Experience with environmental test equipment, optical quality inspection, optical test & alignment equipment, spectrophotometers, and metrology methods is preferred.High School Diploma or GEDU.S. Citizenship requiredSkills
