Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Essential Functions:

• Conduct comprehensive health assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate differential diagnoses for acutely ill patients.

• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians and healthcare teams.

• Perform and assist with procedures appropriate to scope of practice (e.g., line placements, intubations, suturing, etc., depending on setting).

• Monitor patients’ progress, adjust treatment plans, and provide rapid response in urgent or emergent situations.

• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care.

• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nurses and other healthcare professionals.

• Document all care provided in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory standards.

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of clinical protocols and best practices.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize transitions of care and discharge planning.

• Maintain current knowledge of acute care, pharmacology, and clinical best practices through continuing education.

Experience and Education:

• Education: Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.

• Certification: Current board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP or ACNP-BC).

• Licensure: Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the state of practice.

• Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in acute or critical care settings preferred (e.g., ICU, ED, hospital medicine, or step-down unit).

• BLS and ACLS certifications required.

• Strong diagnostic reasoning, clinical judgment, and decision-making skills.

• Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

Physical Requirements:

• Standing (1/3-2/3), walking (over 1/3-2/3), using hands to finger, handle or feel (over 2/3), reach with hands and arms (over 1/3), climb and balance (under 1/3), stoop, kneel (1/2-2/3), talk or hear (1/2-2/3), smell (under 1/3). Lifting up to 10 pounds (over 2/3), Up to 25 pounds (1/3-2/3); Up to 50 pounds (under 1/3)
