Position : Veterinary Technician – Preclinical Research
Pay : $21.73 – $30.00 per hour (based on level and experience)
Contract : Contract hire 6-month, full-time
Description :
The Veterinary Technician supports preclinical research operations by providing high-quality animal care, technical procedures, and clinical support under the guidance of veterinarians. This role is hands-on and involves caring for a wide variety of research animals, performing diagnostics, administering medications, assisting with surgical procedures, and ensuring compliance with GLP standards. Veterinary Technicians play a critical role in maintaining the health and welfare of animals while contributing to the success of early-phase drug development studies.
Overview :
- Provide nursing care and treatments for medical cases under veterinarian supervision.
- Perform basic diagnostics and screenings (e.g., Tb testing, malarial screens, urine analysis, fecal testing, blood collection).
- Assist with animal handling, restraint, sedation, anesthesia, and post-operative care.
- Administer medications via IM, SQ, topical, and PO routes.
- Support surgical procedures including preparation, bandaging, wound care, and monitoring anesthesia.
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with GLP standards.
- Perform cleaning, prep, and routine maintenance of veterinary instruments and equipment.
- Share responsibility for departmental inventory, supply management, and routine quality checks.
- Communicate effectively with veterinarians, scientists, and cross-functional staff regarding animal health and welfare.
- Participate in ongoing training, ensure PPE compliance, and follow all safety protocols.
Schedule
Training Period (first ~2–3 months) :
5 days per week, 8-hour shiftsStart time : 7 : 00 or 7 : 30 am (a little flexibility — can start as late as 8 : 00–8 : 15 am if needed)After Training :
Shift switches to 4x10s (4 days per week, 10-hour shifts)Options : Thursday–Sunday or Monday–ThursdayDaily start time : between 6 : 00 and 7 : 00 am
