Underwriting Manager

Sentry Insurance is looking for an analytical and result driven individual with prior property and casualty underwriting experience to provide outstanding leadership to a team of underwriters in our Sentry Great Lakes Region. This team works with the middle-market and offers multi-line products to help our independent agency partners serve their customers. The ideal candidate should have prior management experience as well as an inquiring mind, an ability to evaluate, analyze and provide sound rationale for actions taken.

We are pleased to announce that we are in the process of opening our new Great Lakes Regional Office in Cincinnati, Ohio in the near future. This position will start working from home, until such a time this office can be opened. At that time, this position will report under a hybrid work model, Mondays and Fridays working from home, Tuesday - Thursday in the office.

What You'll Do :

As the Underwriting Manager for Commercial Lines, you'll oversee and guide the implementation and successful execution of our business strategy and uphold continuous improvement through leadership focused on process, problem solving, performance, partnering, purpose and people.

In addition, you'll :

Lead a team of underwriters

Recommend / implement changes to improve productivity, growth, profitability, and quality

Interpret underwriting guidelines for larger or more complex files

Handle difficult underwriting inquiries through direct personal action

Coordinate and participate in underwriting trainingand developmentprograms

Attend sales team meetings and present and workwith the broader Sentry teamin pursuing new accounts,which may include other underwriting or sales teams within the organization.

What it Takes :

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required

7-10 years of previous property and casualty underwriting experience

Leadership experience is preferred

Thorough knowledge of specific insurance concepts and terminology.

Exceptional communication, organization, and analytical skills

Completion in or currently taking Insurance courses such as IIA and CPCU preferred

Ability to meet travel requirements
