General Job Description

Firefighters work under the supervision of engineers and captains. Their primary duty is to safely perform a wide variety of firefighting evolutions. Firefighters shall be required to operate all district apparatus. This may be a full-time, part-time or limited term position.

Prerequisites :

  • High school graduate or G.E.D.
  • Completion a California Firefighter 1
  • Current Paramedic License
  • Current California Class C or higher Driver's License

Qualifications :

  • Ability to stay current in modern firefighting, engineering, rescue techniques and BLS and ALS EMS service delivery.
  • Ability to effectively work with supervisors and subordinates.
  • Function effectively in an emergency.

    • Responsibilities :

  • Respond to all alarms in the district while on duty, in accordance with district response policies.
  • Maintain familiarity with all equipment and apparatus in the Fire District.
  • May be required to help train other Firefighters.
  • Will be required to assist in the maintenance and repair of all district equipment.
  • Will be required to leave all district equipment in service and clean after calls and training.
  • Shall be checked off to operate vehicles upon approval of the appropriate Captain.
  • Full or part-time employees may need to assume the duties of the engineer (See engineer job description) with completion of the engineer task book.
  • Remain current with all district equipment they operate.
  • Other duties as assigned

    • Remarks

    Must serve a probationary period of 12 months. Performance evaluations will be quarterly during probation, then annually thereafter. This may be an hourly full-time or part-time position. The Board determines compensation for this position. Copy of all Prerequisites must be included with the application.

    Starting Salary Range : $76,613.00 to $87,920.00 annually

    Pay step 2 @ 6 months and Step 3 @ 12 months

    Paid sick leave, vacation and holidays

    $1000.00 annual uniform allowance
