The City of Paso Robles is accepting applications for the Wastewater Collections Maintenance Specialist I / II in the Utilities Department. This position plays a vital role in protecting public health and the environment by performing semi-skilled work in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, repair, and operation of the City\'s wastewater collections system (consisting of 126 miles of sewers and 13 sewage lift stations). The Organization
The City of Paso Robles was incorporated in 1889 as a general law city and operates under the Council-Manager form of government. As of January 1, 2025, the population is approximately 31,061. The City provides a wide range of essential public services and is governed by a five-member City Council (Mayor elected at large and four Councilmembers elected by district). The City Manager serves as the Chief Executive Officer and appoints non-elected employees, with the exception of the City Attorney.
The City operates with a total annual budget of $145.7 million for fiscal year 2025-26 and employs 314.44 full-time equivalent positions across multiple departments including Utilities.
Responsibilities
Note : Must be available for regular standby assignments and work emergency overtime as required per the SEIU memorandum of understanding.
Individuals in this position are currently assigned a 9 / 80 work schedule. Within a two-week timeframe they work Monday through Friday one week and Monday through Thursday the next, providing every other Friday off. Other schedules may be considered based on operational demands.

Distinguishing Characteristics
Maintenance Specialist I is the entry level in this class series, initially under close supervision and progressively taking on more independent work. Maintenance Specialist II is the experienced journey level with broader responsibilities.
Advancement Criteria
A Maintenance Specialist I may advance to Maintenance Specialist II after a minimum of 6 months satisfactory performance at the current wage step. Certification or license requirements must be met within one year of appointment to progress.
Other Requirements
Must possess the strength and stamina for heavy physical work, operate tools and equipment, lift up to 60 pounds unassisted (and heavier with proper equipment), and read printed materials and a computer screen. May be required to wear protective breathing apparatus. Willing to work outdoors in all weather and hazardous conditions.
