Job description

The Department of Neurology at the Ohio State University invites applications for a Neurology Health Services Research (HSR) Fellowship. The ideal candidate will have an MD degree and have completed a neurology residency and/or a neurology fellowship in any clinical discipline. Candidates with additional training such as a PhD/MPH/MBA or equivalent are welcome. The successful candidate hired at the instructor level will demonstrate potential for future success with research publications, grant attainment, and mentoring. Candidates specializing in research focused on underserved or minority populations are encouraged to apply.

The Division of Health Services Research in the Department of Neurology at OSU has a funded fellowship position for 1-2 years. See our website for more information about the division and program. We are committed to efforts to optimize the health outcomes and well-being of people with neurological symptoms and disease. Candidates should have an interest in research that aims to better understand health and health care delivery and to develop, evaluate, and implement interventions to improve both health and societal outcomes. Our group has experience in a variety of research methods including complex analyses of secondary data, development and evaluation of decision support tools, qualitative data acquisition and analyses, and randomized health services research clinical trials.

Fellows will collaborate closely with co-directors, Kerber and Burke to design and execute research projects related to HSR with a goal of developing as an independent investigator. During the fellowship period, fellows would have the opportunity to participate in a variety of didactic activities focused on expanding their HSR skills, including participation in the Ohio State Clinical Scholars Program.

Advancement, opportunity and collaboration describe the research and scholarship efforts in The Ohio State University Department of Neurology. Our faculty members are engaged in a broad range of multidisciplinary efforts to bolster advances in the practice, teaching and research of family medicine. Our successes are demonstrated by professional presentations, publications and grant support.

Investigator-initiated research drives the department toward its goal of being a nationally and internationally recognized leader in research and scholarship. Educational initiatives and research continue to produce state-of-the-art curriculum, teaching strategies and learning techniques that advance medical education at many levels including medical student education, residency training and continuing medical education.

The Ohio State University (OSU) provides a rich environment for interdisciplinary, and collaborative research. Preference will be given to candidates who also have a record of peer-reviewed publications and productive work on funded research projects. The OSU College of Medicine has as its goal to expand research in health equity, social determinants of health, population health, and health services and implementation science and the reduction of health inequities among our patients and communities through care delivery and education. The new faculty member will have an important role in helping the College to achieve its goals.

Fellows will receive research funding and participate in career development programs to support their transition to a faculty position and their long-term career success. Fellows will focus time on research for up to two years allowing for an in-depth start on scholarship, with reduced clinical, and teaching/lecturing responsibilities to no more than 20% FTE. Fellows in the Department of Neurology will be expected to teach/lecture Residents and Medical students as deemed appropriate and consistent with goals of the Department of Neurology.
