Job Summary

Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor II are registered nurses who are responsible for the operation of the nursing unit over a specific time period. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor must have a strong foundation of clinical knowledge and skills on which to base judgments and make decisions, organizing abilities to direct nursing tasks and operations, and interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and the work of others. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor accepts the responsibility for, and is accountable for, his / her own nursing practice. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor also seeks out and pursues opportunities for learning and assumes responsibility for their own self-development. Registered nurses must be knowledgeable and skillful in performing the Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor role. A registered nurse who assumes the role of Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor also assumes the responsibility inherent to the role. Three fundamental responsibilities for Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor include planning, coordinating, and evaluating unit nursing activities. In addition, the Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes : assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with American Nurses' Association Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

  • Minimum (2) years of experience in a leadership role (includes unit charge nurse role).
  • Minimum four (4) years of recent RN experience.
  • Possession of current California RN License without restrictions
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification or UC Davis CPR
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Experience providing safe patient care, medication inventory and procurement.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism
  • Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner
  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ambulatory Nursing Certification Nurse Executive Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Participation in leadership courses such as See Me As A Person, Leading in an Empowered Organization (LEO), or Rising Nurse Leadership, etc.

  • Department Overview

    UC Davis Department of Dermatology is a major referral center for Northern California and Nevada. Patient population is all ages, from babies to the elderly. We see an average of 140 patients per day. We provide care for general dermatology, MOHS surgery, general dermatology surgery, phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, dermapathology, laser surgery, tele-derm and Store & Forward Program at multiple off sites (Roseville, Davis, Folsom & Elk Grove), cosmetic services and are actively involved in many research projects.

    Department Specific Job Scope

    The ANII supervises and coordinates the daily operations of a team of Registered Nurses, ensuring the effective delivery of critical treatments, including phototherapy, laser therapy, and nursing wound care. Responsibilities include overseeing patient flow, ensuring proper setup and maintenance of specialized equipment, and upholding sterile technique as required. The role involves independently assisting providers with procedures, training staff on treatment protocols, reviewing patient charts for accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, the ANII manages staff scheduling, provides performance feedback, facilitates continuous education, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes. The ANII is required to support the staff in the locations that is required for business purposes.
