Responsibilities
Financial Leadership and Oversight
- Lead the tax function for the firm, including managing all aspects of tax compliance, tax reporting, and tax planning
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, legal, and investment teams, to provide tax advice and support on transactions, investments, and other business activities
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
- Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture and manage any external tax consultants
Audit and Compliance
Maintain thorough documentation to support audits and ensure smooth processesLead communications and data requests for tax audits and inquiries from domestic and international tax authoritiesMonitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess impact on Certara's operationsStay current on changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the pharmaceutical consulting and software industry and communicate changes to senior managementStrategic Contributions
Support development and implementation of effective tax strategies to minimize global tax liabilitiesAssess the tax implications of corporate transactions, including acquisitions, reorganizations, and intercompany arrangements.Evaluate tax impacts related to revenue recognition, transfer pricing, & foreign operationsCoordinate the preparation and interpretation of tax filings and present findings.Drive continuous improvement of end to end tax processesTax Compliance and Reporting
Create monthly and annual tax reports to identify results, trends in taxesReview and approve tax journal entriesManage the tax month-end and year end close process and prepare tax financial reporting packages for all Certara entitiesOversee preparation and filing of all federal, state, local, and international tax returns in coordination with external advisorsEnsure timely and accurate tax provision calculations (ASC 740) for financial reporting in coordination with external advisorsOversee intercompany pricing models and documentation in line with IRS and OECD guidelines.Process & Systems
Lead continuous improvement efforts in tax processes and controls.Partner with IT to optimize tax systems, reporting capabilities, and data automationDrive process alignment with the SOX control framework and ensure control operation effectivenessBusiness Partnership and Advisory
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather financial data and provide insights for strategic tax decision-making.Coordinate with finance team members in different geographies regarding tax compliance filing, and disclosure mattersServe as the primary tax advisor to senior management, including on M&A and financing transactionsSupport legal with statutory tax obligations, including permanent establishment assessments and nexus evaluationsQualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA8+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax roles, including public accounting or multinational corporate environmentsIn-depth knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax regulations and UK tax; experience with international tax issues a strong plusDemonstrated expertise with tax software and NetSuite ERP SystemStrong understanding of ASC 740, SOX controls, and transfer pricingExcellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skillsSignificant experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI , OutlookDemonstrates leadership capability and the ability to influence othersExcellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.Adaptable to change and possess a willingness to embrace innovative ideas and new processesCertara bases all employment-related decision on merit, taking into consideration qualifications, skills, achievement, and performance.
