Manufacturing Engineer (Operations Engineer II)

Pay Rate: $45–$50/hour (W2)

Sterling Engineering is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer (Operations Engineer II) to support a high-volume manufacturing environment through process improvement, technical problem-solving, and manufacturing leadership. This role partners closely with technical leadership, engineering, and the manufacturing floor to improve processes, support new equipment and product introductions, and drive operational excellence.
This is a long-term contract opportunity with stability, hands-on engineering exposure, and collaboration across operations, engineering, and supply chain teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical manufacturing solutions to complex production and process challenges
- Support new capital equipment purchases and implementation, including justification documentation
- Develop and improve manufacturing cell layouts and process improvement initiatives
- Apply basic Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools to drive continuous improvement
- Support Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) and New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Implement complex engineering changes and support process audits
- Create, maintain, and update process documentation, work instructions, and work order documentation
- Support the manufacturing floor with process-related questions and training
- Initiate and support Process Flow Charts, PFMEA, and Control Plans
- Provide operational updates to management as needed
- Learn from senior Operations Engineers and potentially mentor Level I engineers or Manufacturing Specialists
- Participate in project-level process improvement initiatives
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in Engineering or related technical field preferred
- 5 years of professional engineering experience (or equivalent combination of experience and advanced education)
