Role Summary
The Necropsy Technician I will be engaged in necropsy support such as set up, perfusion, prosection, preparation of tissues / organs / samples, tissue trimming, tissue / organ accountabilities and maintaining necropsy equipment. The Necropsy Technician I will also be involved in assisting with sample management.
Role Responsibilities
- Basic perfusion and prosection of tissues and organs. Tissue accountability, trimming, and weighing.
- Sample Management
- Necropsy study set up including but not limited to data sheet creation, cassette, and tube labeling.
- Use of Necropsy equipment including down draft tables, bone saw, and balance.
- Basic euthanasia
- Basic sample collection
- Waste management and laboratory maintenance.
- Data collection
- Stocking standard necropsy supplies.
- Preparation of solutions and fixatives.
- Assist with necropsy data review.
- Intubation / extubation, induction of anesthesia, and assessing anesthetic depth.
- Drug calculations and administration including intramuscular and subcutaneous.
- Introduction to point technician duties.
- Other duties as assigned.
Role Requirements
High School Diploma / GED required. Undergraduate Degree in animal or life sciences preferred.Minimum of 1 year experience with High School Diploma / GED or 6 months of experience with undergraduate degree preferred.ALAT certification preferred.Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications.Good written and oral communication skills.Basic understanding of laboratory operations and data collection, knowledge of GLP’s and other federal regulations relating to the care and handling of laboratory animals.Basic understanding of study design and protocols.Behavioral Expectations

This role works predominately in a laboratory setting. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of and / or exposure to animal tissues and zoonotic organisms.Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 masks and respirators.Physical activity including lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50 feet), pushing / pulling (up to 75lbs force), reaching, gripping / pinching, standing and ascending ladder without restriction.Ability to spend most of the day standing or walking.Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts with short notice.
