Payroll Operations Analyst

Hybrid : This position allows flexibility utilizing our hybrid-work appropriately model where team members can work at the GM Global Technical Center requiring the team member be onsite to support project needs. The Role : The Payroll Operations Analyst is a key contributor to GM's ongoing efforts for continuous improvement in payroll operations. This role is responsible for overseeing all phases of U.S. payroll processing and year-end activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance. The analyst will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze and enhance payroll-related business processes, lead change management initiatives, and support regulatory and union-driven improvements. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, independent judgment, and the ability to drive process excellence in a dynamic environment

What You'll Do :

  • Process U.S. payroll under a processing services model with ADP, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop and execute robust test plans for payroll initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document business requirements, ensuring clear project objectives.
  • Translate business requirements into user stories for IT development.
  • Create and perform test plans to validate that solutions meet business needs and function correctly.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders, business process owners, and subject matter experts.
  • Support change management activities related to regulatory, union, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Research, benchmark, and identify best practices; participate in continuous education to recommend process improvements.
  • Identify project issues proactively and recommend practical solutions.
  • Map processes and analyze data to develop action plans for complex problems.
  • Keep up-to-date on technical and ever changing aspects of payroll and to identify needed process changes in GM systems and business processes
  • Proactively identify process improvement opportunities and lead change
  • Extract, verify, analyze, and present data to support management decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and tax regulations.
  • Provide financial analysis and decision support as needed.
  • Assist with special projects and global initiatives as required.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a focus on HR, Finance or Labor Relations or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of related work experience within HR, Finance or Labor Relations
  • Knowledge of payroll and / or Timekeeping systems and end to end payroll business processes
  • Interpersonal skills, analytical mindset, and project management skills are critical to success
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and balance many projects at one time
  • Highly developed computer skills especially Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to lead small project teams and work independently
  • What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) :

  • ADP Global view payroll processing knowledge
  • Process mapping and data analytics to develop action plans for problems that are complex in nature
  • Experience in the development of business process models, business requirements / user stories
  • Broad knowledge of payroll / timekeeping practices, labor relations, HR
  • Network and collaborate with colleagues, third parties, and other GM departments to achieve desired business results
