BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION :

The P RR SUBSTATION & METER RELAY Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 2 Bargaining Unit vacancies available. (Role : NON-EXEMPT)

JOB FUNCTION :

Performs installation, acceptance testing, in-service testing, calibrations, programming and repairs on system and generation protection relays to ensure correct operation. Troubleshoots all equipment to the system level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

As an Electrician (Relay) at the maximum level, performs the following duties.

As an Electrician (Relay) at lower levels, performs the following duties under direction or direct supervision in accordance with the various stages of training.

Installs, operates, and maintains system and generator protection relays, which includes electromechanical, electronic, and microprocessor-based types.

Assembles, installs, wires, tests, repairs, calibrates, coordinates, and programs protection and control relays, sensing monitoring instrument transformers and related equipment on Company or customer's premises.

Maintains and performs tests on automatic transfers, network relays, under-voltage and under-frequency load shedding system and relays.

Utilizes computers, related programs and test devices to troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, install and confirm settings on the equipment at the system level.

Maintains adequate inventories of spare parts.

Prepares new and updates old drawings, records and reports.

Maintains all equipment under Relay Section jurisdiction in good operating condition.

Directs the work and trains personnel in lower classifications on any or all of the above operations.

Drives Company vehicle.

Attend trainings, workshops and seminars to obtain certifications and licenses as needed which will maintain and expand knowledge base, comprehend and realize new technologies and increase functionality and responsibility within the Relay Department.

Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls / callouts.

Other Responsibilities :

Performs similar and incidental duties as required.

Performs some responsibilities of the T324 Electrician (Communication), T276 Electrician (Substation), T277 Electrician (Electrical & Welding Services), T309 Sr. Meter Electrician (Meter), and / or T331 Electrician (Instrument & Control).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :

Must have or be able to qualify for State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.

Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues and tints.

Must pass Company Job Sample Test.

Must pass Company Written Job Knowledge Test.

Electrician (Relay), 1st Year :

Graduate of applicable apprenticeship programORan Associate Degree in Electrical / Electronic Technical or Engineering schoolORequivalent training and experienceAND

Must have 3 years minimum work experience in installing, testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, programming, and repair of electromechanical, electronic, microprocessor systems and equipment; preferably, but not limited to electrical system protection relays, instrument transformers, monitoring and control devices, auxiliary and control relays, AC and DC schematics and drawings, system functional tests, power utility controls maintenance, and operating various test equipment (including laptop computers and testing software).

For progression to Electrician (Relay), Thereafter :

Satisfactory completion of 12 months on-the-job training as T310, Electrician (Relay), 1st Year.

Must be able to satisfactorily complete Independent Course Study (ICS) related training within 1 year.

Must pass Company Job Performance Test.

A letter of acknowledgement (dated 11 / 2021) outlining details of the above requirements will be reviewed with applicants / employees.
