Assistant/Associate Professor Pharmacy Practice Specializing in Public Health

The Hampton University Department of Pharmacy Practice invites applications for a highly motivated individual to serve as the Public Health specialist in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program and Public Health minor for a twelve-month, full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Description of the School:

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. It is located on the east coast of Virginia in the picturesque Hampton Roads area that includes the cities of Hampton, Norfolk, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Newport News.

Hampton University School of Pharmacy (HUSOP) was granted Pre-Candidate Status for the Doctor of Pharmacy program by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) Board of Directors in January 2024. More information is available on the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) website . The school has successfully matriculated its first PharmD cohort in the Fall of 2024. HUSOP is currently seeking Candidate Status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) for its Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program. An onsite review of the school is scheduled for April 2025. The School currently offers the Bachelors of Science in Pharmaceutical Science degree, along with minors in Pharmaceutical Science, Environmental Health Science, and Public Health.

Description:

The Hampton University School of Pharmacy seeks an outstanding individual who is committed to academic excellence, participate in an innovative educational curriculum, establish a clinical pharmacy practice for experiential training and patient care, perform scholarly activities based on clinical and/or educational endeavors, serve on College/University/Professional committees, and contribute to the University's commitment to diversity.

Applicants should have a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Preferred) from an accredited college; postgraduate training and clinical experience in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics with didactic teaching history.

Candidates must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, and teaching skills.

Essential Responsibilities of the Position:

Teaching

• Coordinate courses in the public Heath Minor and /or PharmD curriculum.
• Provide instruction in other pharmacy courses as assigned, including the use of Canvas and ExamSoft to deliver instructional materials.

Scholarly activities

• Develop and deliver innovative educational curriculum related to Public Health, Biostatics
• Enhance instructional materials for use within courses.
• Publish a minimum of one peer-reviewed article, or comparable activity, per year.

Service

• Serve on College/University/Professional committees.
• Contribute to the University's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Comply with all the duties and responsibilities associated with being a Hampton University faculty

Qualifications:

Candidates applying for this position will be considered based on the following qualifications.

• Doctorate (PhD or DrPH) in Public Health or a closely related field (e.g., Epidemiology, Health Policy, Environmental Health, Biostatistics, Global Health).
• Master's Degree (MPH) may be considered in some cases, especially with extensive practical or research experience, though many institutions prefer or require a terminal degree.
• Experience teaching public health or related subjects at the undergraduate or graduate level is usually required. This may include lectures, seminars, and lab-based instruction.
• Demonstrate a commitment to research in public health, with a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Research areas might include community health, epidemiology, global health, health disparities, or environmental health.
• Ability to communicate complex public health concepts to undergraduate students, many of whom may not be public health majors.
• Experience working in public health practice (e.g., governmental agencies, NGOs, or healthcare organizations) can be highly beneficial. This practical experience helps bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application.
