Job Description :

The main function of a project engineer is to estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment or labor to determine project feasibility. A typical project engineer has knowledge of engineering technology, building and construction and public safety and security. They must have solid decision making skills and be a critical thinker.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Supervise the construction of roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges and water supply and sewage systems.
  • Review the cost effectiveness, timing, reliability and safety of certain design models to determine project feasibility and approve final design implementation plan.
  • Analyze and evaluate impact of project to government regulations and potential environmental hazards.
  • Manage and direct staff members and the construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site.

  • The role provides critical support in terms of Assurance of Supply, Supplier performance work that is supported by the Work group for the enterprise needs.

  • Work environment description Typical task breakdown :
  • Travel to suppliers and Caterpillar plants in USA, Mexico and sometime international locations.
  • Weekly travel to Caterpillar plants in Decatur
  • Work on supporting Critical Suppliers, NPI build parts development, fit up, process improvement work. Collaborate with Category, Agile teams and facility as needed to ensure parts arrive with good quality and on time. Attend meetings as needed. Create / update project plans, reports as needed. Execute travel as needed as well.

    • Interaction with team :

  • Very heavy team interactions with daily meetings Virtual & in person
  • This is a very much team role as it has dependencies tied with a wide group of stake holders from Category Managers, Agile Leads, Supplier Development Engineers, Suppliers, Factory.

  • Previous Caterpillar experience is a significant benefit for this role in Supplier Performance, Collaboration., Agile Sourced Purchasing.
  • Full time work experience of minimum of 10+ years in USA in Supplier collaboration, Sourcing for Mining products.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service focus
  • Product knowledge of Mining Trucks, Negotiating skills, Analytical Thinking.
  • Good knowledge of Light Fabs category parts and sourcing
  • Experience in should cost modeling, supply chain planning, supplier audits for Assembly, Test and Paint.
  • Planning of process automation for suppliers
  • Conduct feasibility meetings.
  • Good knowledge of excel, advanced excel, PPT, Word
  • Previous experience with process improvement, layouts, flow, PPAP, and Advanced Manufacturing process
  • Good understanding of procurement process
  • Thorough understanding of company policies and procedures, especially those with supplier impact

  • APICS CPIM or CSPC National Certification highly desired.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt (or) Black Belt

  • Very good written and verbal communication
  • Very good negotiation skills and able to respond in short turn around times
  • Able to work with multiple stake holders in a matrix team structure.

  • Those with NO previous work experience in Agile procurement, supplier collaboration domains
  • People with NO light fabs experience in procurement
  • People NOT having experience in Mining, Heavy Equipment sector.
