Expo / Runner Thursday - Friday - Saturday Evenings

Position Summary

The Expo / Runner is responsible for ensuring each dish leaving the kitchen meets the restaurant’s exacting standards for presentation, accuracy, and timing. Acting as the communication hub between the kitchen and front-of-house, this position plays a critical role in coordinating service flow, maintaining precision, and delivering an exceptional guest experience.

Key Responsibilities

Expediting & Coordination

  • Manage the pass, ensuring each order is plated to specification and garnished appropriately before leaving the kitchen.
  • Communicate seamlessly between culinary and service teams to maintain timing and accuracy.
  • Prioritize and organize ticket flow during service to ensure courses are delivered in sequence and on time.
  • Monitor pacing of tables and course progression in coordination with servers and management.
  • Confirm special requests, allergies, and modifications are executed precisely.

Service Execution & Delivery

  • Deliver dishes to the appropriate guest with poise and accuracy, announcing menu items with confidence and professionalism.
  • Assist servers in presenting and clearing courses in synchronization with the dining room’s service rhythm.
  • Maintain awareness of table numbers, guest counts, and coursing order throughout service.
  • Anticipate guest needs and support the floor team with refills, bread service, and mise en place as needed.
  • Teamwork & Cleanliness

  • Uphold a clean, organized, and efficient expo line and pass.
  • Collaborate closely with kitchen staff, servers, and management to deliver a seamless guest experience.
  • Follow all health, sanitation, and safety standards consistently.
  • Support pre-service setup and post-service breakdown of the pass area.
  • Qualifications

  • Experience : 1–2 years in a fine dining or upscale restaurant environment preferred.
  • Skills : Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to multitask under pressure.
  • Knowledge : Familiarity with fine dining standards, menu items, table numbers, and coursing structure.
  • Physical Requirements : Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
